Since its inception in 1996 the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research has become firmly established as the foremost global award for research on entrepreneurship. This Prize is awarded annually and it consists of the statuette "The Hand of God”, created by Swedish Sculptor Carl Milles, and a Prize sum of 100,000 euros.

The partners behind the Award are the founder, Swedish Entrepreneurship Forum (Entreprenörskapsforum), the co-founder, the Research Institute of Industrial Economics (IFN), the sponsor, VINNOVA, and the donor, Stockholms Köpmansklubb (2016 and onwards). The three organizations are jointly responsible for the Award.

Carl Milles and the statuette

Carl Milles “The Hand of God” was one of Milles’ last works before his death. Originally, Milles created it to honor the Swedish innovator and entrepreneur C. E. Johansson. The original still stands in Johansson’s hometown of Eskilstuna. Read more...

The Prize Committee

The Committee consists of six members. To be eligible one has to hold or have held a full professorship at a Swedish university working on small business and entre-preneurship issues. Hernando de Soto

Hernando de Soto is the 2017 winner of the Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research. According to the Prize motivation, Hernando de Soto received the Award "for developing a new under-standing of the institutions that underpin the informal economy as well as the role of property rights and entrepreneurship in converting the informal economy into the formal sector."
