Motivation
Professor MacMillan has been instrumental in introducing an international perspective involving comparative studies on cultural differences in entrepreneurship and small business behavior.
His main contribution has been the integration of two separate research fields: entrepreneurship/small business research and management/strategy research. He has thereby strengthened their theoretical basis and greatly increased the field’s scientific standing and legitimacy. This is very evident in his many excellent research contributions dealing with international aspects of entrepreneurship, corporate venturing and strategic management. His work is frequently published in the top journals in these fields.
His contributions as a high-quality mentor and rigorous supervisor are well known, as are his pioneering work as editor and founder of the Journal of Business Venturing, a leading publication in the field that has been of great importance for the development of entrepreneurship and small business research. In short, Professor MacMillan’s achievements have played a key role in helping establish entrepreneurship as a legitimate field of scholarly study.
